Toyota 4runner Sunroof Wont Open

I took the map light unit down to get to the motor and it looks like something is seized up cause when i push the button the gears start to turn but then slide over and rub the plastic housing.

Well you shouldn t have opened it to begin with. 2004 toyota 4runner parts dealer wants 2k to replace whole assembly. This is the 3rd time i had tore apart this sunroof and finally fixed it. In my 4runner i don t use my sunroof in fact i keep the shade closed too.

If you can hear the motor clicking when you push the switch for your sunroof go to step 3. Could not find any videos or info so i hope this helps. If your sunroof isn t working and you can t hear the motor running go to step 2. I love the little gilded monster and i will be the last owner.

You could always just disable the sunroof and not open it. I have a 99 4runner and the sunroof won t open. I have a stuck sunroof in the open position. What really sucks if you open it and can t close it.
