An open transom window in the winter helped heat from the central fireplace reach bedrooms at night. The pattern or design of the muntins for the transom usually does not align with the muntin bars or stiles of the doors below. Historically operable transom windows above doors played a role in the heating and cooling in a home. We have done interior transoms in our homes.

The windows are generally rectangular and placed horizontally and may be sectioned with trim. Standard or wide stiles available. Our transoms are single pane 1 4 annealed glass with simulated divided lite with 1 3 16 muntin bars. So for a 2 8 door so would order a 2 8 transom.

Transom windows also called transom lights sit above an entry patio or interior door or other windows. Interior trim will match the door unit. This is normal there is no need to align them. Standard installation we do not make doors but you can choose most any door that you can find and we will build an exterior transom to fit above it.
